Surrey, BC – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has deployed investigators to West Kelowna following a police-involved shooting.
RCMP reported that early this morning, September 13, 2019 at approximately 1:00 a.m., West Kelowna RCMP responded to a complaint of a male jumping in front of a vehicle along Westside Road and attempting to hit it with an object.
West Kelowna RCMP reportedly located a male in nearby Bear Creek Provincial Park. The individual was shot by police while they attempted to arrest him. He fled onto a log boom in Okanagan Lake.
Assisted by members of the Kelowna RCMP and working from shore and boat, officers took the individual into custody at approximately 7:21 a.m. He received immediate medical assistance for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
