Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident in Quesnel.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on August 31, 2021 at approximately 3:30 a.m., police conducted a check on a vehicle parked in a parking lot at the 400-block of Carson Avenue with one occupant sleeping inside. An interaction occurred between the individual and the officers, and shots were fired by police. The individual was transported to the local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
The IIO was advised of the incident shortly thereafter and has commenced an investigation into the incident.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
