Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Saanich which has left two people dead and several police officers injured.
This morning at approximately 11:00 am, officers with Saanich Police, the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) and the Victoria Police Department responded to a report that two armed men had entered a bank in the 3600-block of Shelbourne Street in Saanich.
According to police, the suspects fired at officers. Two suspects were shot by police and died at the scene. Six GVERT officers suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to hospital; some have been taken into surgery.
