Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Campbell River.
Information from the RCMP states that at about 1:45 a.m. on June 13, 2022, police responded to a report of an alleged homicide with potential hostages at a marina. Officers, including members of the Emergency Response Team, attended the marina and reportedly determined there were no longer any hostages.
It is reported that police spoke to the man who was the subject of the initial call to police and who is alleged to have had a weapon. Shots were fired, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and IIO investigators have been deployed to Campbell River.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
