Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved shooting incident in Burnaby which resulted in serious injuries to one person and the death of an officer.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on October 18, 2022, there was an altercation between an individual and an officer near the intersection of Canada Way and Curle Avenue.
During the incident, the individual was shot, and the officer was stabbed. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, and the officer has since been pronounced deceased.
The IIO has deployed investigators to the scene and commenced an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
