Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating the injury suffered by one man during a motor vehicle incident involving the Vancouver Police Department on May 21, 2024.
Information provided by the VPD states the affected person (AP), a man, was walking on East Hastings Street near Dunlevy Avenue when they were struck by a police vehicle around 12:30 a.m.
The AP was taken to a hospital for treatment and observation.
The IIO was notified of the incident the same day.
Initial investigative steps will seek to clarify the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the man’s injury and whether police action or inaction played a role.
