Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Kamloops.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on March 12, 2021* at approximately 8:15 p.m., an officer observed an altercation in progress in the 600-block of Columbia Street. When the officer attempted to arrest one of the involved parties, an interaction occurred before the man was successfully taken into custody.
The man was transported to RCMP cells where he was found to have sustained injuries. Emergency Health Services were called, and the man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
