Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Richmond.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on September 3, 2020 at approximately 4:45 a.m., police responded to a report of an unauthorized man on a construction site in the 7100-block of Elmbridge Way. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the man without success.

The man was then located and arrested with the assistance of police service dog from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services unit. The dog is handled by a member of the Delta Police Department. The man sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries during his arrest.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
