Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on October 2, 2020 at approximately 2:20 a.m., an officer initiated a traffic stop to conduct an impaired driving investigation involving a man driving a white Ford F150 in the 2900-block of Kingsway. An exchange occurred outside of the vehicle. The man ended up on the ground and sustained injuries. He was then transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
The IIO is investigating to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in the man’s injuries.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
