Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that at approximately 3:20 a.m. on February 8, 2022, officers conducting an unrelated traffic stop were reportedly approached by a man in the 100 block of East Pender Street.
The man was arrested following an interaction and sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries while being taken into custody. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
