Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver which resulted in serious injuries to one man.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that in the early hours of October 22, police responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance near Selkirk and West 32nd Avenue. A man was taken into custody.

The man told IIO investigators that during the evening of October 21 and into the early hours of October 22, he was also involved in an incident at a nightclub in the 1300-block of SW Marine Drive.

At some point, the man sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury. The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions may have played in the injury.

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
