Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident in Victoria.
Information provided by the Victoria Police Department indicates that on March 15, 2021 at approximately 5:30 a.m., police at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for an unrelated matter responded to a report of a man with a weapon in the emergency area.
When the man was located, an interaction occurred which resulted in one man being shot by police. The IIO is investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
