Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking witnesses to an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on October 21, 2021 between approximately 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., police responded to a request for assistance with a woman refusing to leave a business in the 570 block of Davie Street. When police arrived, the woman was alleged to have committed an offence and the officers attempted to take her into custody. A struggle ensued, and the woman sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury.
Emergency Health Services were called and transported the woman to a hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
