Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified of a police-involved incident in Lions Bay.
RCMP reported that on February 09, 2020, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a female was released from North Vancouver RCMP custody.
On February 10, 2020, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Squamish RCMP officers attended a call regarding a vehicle fire on Sunset Drive, Lions Bay. Officers discovered the same female deceased at the scene.
Subsequently the IIO was notified and has commenced an investigation to determine whether the death was related to the actions or inactions of the officers involved.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
