Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC confirms that the affected person, a man, involved in a recent Vancouver incident has died (IIO 2023-117).
The man went into medical distress on the morning of May 1, 2023 while in the custody of the Vancouver Police Department. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but did not survive.
Incident Summary
At about 4:15 p.m. on April 30, 2023, a man was arrested and lodged in cells at the Vancouver Police Department jail.
At about 8:25 a.m. the following morning (May 1), the man was found to be in medical distress, and Emergency Health Services were called. The man was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he subsequently died.
The IIO investigation continues.
