IIO Deploys to Fatal Motor Vehicle Incident in Penticton

Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of BC confirms that investigators have been deployed to a fatal motor vehicle incident in Penticton.

According to Penticton RCMP, on September 15, 2015 at approximately 5 pm, a vehicle being driven by an off-duty police officer of the Penticton RCMP struck a four-year old pedestrian. The collision took place in the intersection of Fairview Road and Highway 97. According to police, the boy was with his family crossing the road when the vehicle struck him. Unfortunately the child did not survive his injuries.

The IIO was notified at 6:49 pm and investigators are on their way to the scene. Investigators will be conducting standard investigative activities including locating and interviewing any witnesses and collecting evidence from the scene.

The BC Coroners Service maintains all responsibility for information related to the deceased.

An IIO media spokesperson will be available on the scene to provide members of the media with an update at 8:30 am. No additional updates will be provided until that time.
