Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an officer-involved shooting in West Vancouver that resulted in one man sustaining serious injuries.
Information provided by the West Vancouver Police Department states that at about 3:00 a.m. this morning (June 26, 2023), police responded to a report of a potentially impaired driver, a man, near the Highway 1 westbound off-ramp at 15th Street.
When police arrived, it is reported that there was an exchange of gunfire. Another officer arriving reportedly attempted to use their police vehicle to stop the man who was struck.
The man was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has deployed investigators to the scene. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the sequence of events during the incident, including the actions of both the man (the affected person) and police.
