Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating an incident in Coquitlam, which resulted in one man being shot by police.
Information provided by the RCMP states that on September 22, 2023, officers were attending a call near Pine Tree Way and Glen Drive.
There was then an interaction between officers and the Affected Person (AP), which resulted in the man being shot by police and sustaining serious injuries.
The IIO has now commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of what occurred leading up to and during the interaction with police.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is conducting a separate investigation related to the incident.

Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
