Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has deployed investigators to an officer-involved-shooting in Lytton.

The RCMP reported that on January 13, 2020, just before 8a.m., officers were called to a residence in Lytton concerning a male in distress with a weapon.

Officers reported shots being fired and the Emergency Response Team were requested to assist. Shortly after 2:00 p.m., an officer discharged his firearm resulting in injuries to the male. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
