Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating an incident in Langley.
According to the RCMP, on March 24, 2020 at approximately 11:30 a.m. officers received a report of a male on the wrong side of the railing of the 196th Street overpass over Highway 10. Officers attended and attempted to engage the male in conversation. Officers then attempted to take hold of the male to pull him back over the railing. The male subsequently fell from the overpass.
RCMP officers administered immediate medical assistance and Emergency Health Services (EHS), who had been standing by, attended promptly. The male was transported to the hospital where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.
The IIO is asking that any drivers, pedestrians, or local business owners who may have witnessed this incident or has video footage to contact the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
